Estimate siding material from wall area and waste allowance.

Enter your details

How it works

Siding is sold in "squares" of 100 square feet. Measure each wall, subtract windows and doors, then add waste.

Squares = Wall area × (1 + Waste%) ÷ 100

How to measure for siding

Measure the height and width of each wall, multiply for area, and subtract large openings like windows and doors. Add 5 to 15 percent for waste depending on the complexity of the job.

Common siding materials

Vinyl, fiber cement, wood, and engineered wood are the most common choices. Each has different cost, durability, and maintenance tradeoffs.
